The Homesteading Tab

THE HOMESTEADING FUNCTIONAL AREA

The Homesteading Functional Area is designed to provide the skills necessary for families and small communities to thrive and not just survive. Nutrition, Agriculture, Livestock, and Low Technology Living Skills are the focus of this learning path. Many of these skills are taught on our Affiliate "teaching Farms".

The BASIC Homesteading Program

Designed to build strong foundations in Self Sufficient, Sustainable, Long-term family and group skills. This skill program is intended to build on Individual Survival Skills and improve family, team, and community agriculture and livestock programs. The skills learned in this program are constantly evolving and very diverse.
Those that meet the requirements of this program will earn a Basic Homesteading Tab.


Earning the Basic Homesteading Tab

A PREREQUISITE to earn the Homesteading Tab is you must have previously earned the CAG Survival Tab.

There is one path to earning the Basic Homesteading Tab:dsc 0371 150x150

The Member must attend a Course OR Show Proficiency in Each of the Four(4) Homesteading Subject Categories.

  • Courses must be provided by CAG, a CAG Affiliate, or an Approved Third Party (Coordinate with CAG Prior)
  • Proficiency may be shown either by providing Nationally Recognized Certifications, or by Providing Photo/Video Documentation of a Project for that Category.
  • Photo Project Documentation must always have the Members Name, Project and Member Number prominently displayed on a card in the photo, no photo edits please.
  • Video Documentation must always begin with the Member clearly stating their Name, Project, and Member Number, no video edits please.
  • Members should coordinate all projects, courses, and Certifications with CAG Management in advance to verify they meet the CAG Training Goals for the Category.

The Homesteading Categories are Arranged as follows with Suggestions/Guidance for Course/Projects Subjects:

Again, these are merely suggestions. Members should submit for and gain approval for their ideas for Course/Project Subjects to CAG prior to comitting to them.

Nutrition / Food

  • Food Harvesting, Preparation and Storage (Garden/Orchard/Wild Harvesting and Methods used to Store those foods safely)
  • Canning, Fermenting, and Dry Packaging Food (Safe Pressure and Water Bath Canning for Meats, Fruits, and Vegetables)
  • Meat Preservation - Smokehouse, Drying, and Salt Pack (Safe Processing from raw meat to long term preserved)
  • Livestock and Game Processing (Safe and Efficient killing, gutting, skinning, and butchering for Livestock/Game)
  • Cheese/Butter Manufacture (Process from raw milk to fully processed product)
  • Austere Nutrition and Mass Food Production (Establish and Operate a mass feeding program in an Austere Environment)

Livestock Management

  • Domestic Livestock Management (Safe and Efficient Care and Feeding and management of Domestic herd/flock animals)
  • Fishery Management (Safe and Efficient Care and feeding of a Small Scale Fishery program)
  • WIld Game Management and Conservation (Efficient management practices for maintenance of sustainable population of wild game in a geographic area)
  • Hide and Fur Processing (Safe and Efficient Processing of Hides/Furs for personal use or profit)

Agriculture

  • Small Scale Garden Management (Efficient, Sustainable home gardening methods for personal use or profit)
  • Small Scale Orchard Management (Efficient, Sustainable Orchard methods for personal use or profit)

Living Skills

  • Basic Sewing and Clothing Repair (Safe and sustainable maintenence and fabrication of clothing items without access to external grid power)
  • Soap/Candle Making (Safe and Efficient Soap and/or Candle manufacture at home for personal use or profit)
  • Weaving (Safe and Efficient collection of natural materials and production of woven products for practical use)
  • Thread/Yarn/Cordage Manufacture (Safe and Efficient collection, processing and spinning of Wool or Fur to produce thread, yarn or cordage)

 

To Request Tab Credit you Must:

First, ensure that you are logged into your personal profile on www.CAGMain.com and that your profile is complete.

The Engineering Tab - 2018 Update

THE ENGINEERING FUNCTIONAL AREA


The Engineering Functional Area is designed to provide the skills necessary for Members and small communities to attain a greater level of self sufficiency. Construction and Fortification, Fabrication, Power, Mechanical and Maintenance self sufficient Living Skills are the focus. Many of these skills are taught at Tech and Trade Schools or by CAG Affiliate Trainers.

The BASIC Engineering Program


Designed to build strong foundations in Safe, Self Sufficient, Sustainable long term family and group skills. This skill program is intended to focus on the skills necessary to build and maintain structures, maintain and recover vehicles and to provide power production and storage. The skills learned in this program are continuously evolving and very diverse.
Those that meet the requirements of this program will earn a Basic Homesteading Tab.

Earning the Basic Engineering Tab

A PREREQUISITE to earn the Engineering Tab is you must have previously earned the CAG Austere Medical Tab.


There is one path to earning the Basic Engineering Tab:

The Member must attend a course or show proficiency in at least one Subject in at least FOUR(4) of the Engineering Subject Categories, with SAFETY being a MANDATORY Subject.
That's One Course/Project in EACH of THREE(3) Selected Engineering Subject Categories AND One Course/Project in SAFETY.

Fabrication

  • Basic Woodworking/Carpentry  
  • Basic Metalworking                  (forging, manufacturing or repairing tools, components or items with hand tools)
  • Basic Welding

Automotive

  • Basic Automotive Maintenance/Repair
  • Vehicle Recovery Skills                       (Safe and efficient means to remove a stuck vehicle... especially your own)

Power

  • Alternate Power Production       (Solar/PV, Wind, Hydro, Geo, "Gasifier", or Generator means to produce and Distribute Power)
  • Power Storage and Distribution (Safe and Efficient Means to Store and distribute electrical power throughout a home or site)

Appliance

  • Small/Household Appliance Repair - Basic  (Safe and efficient Maintenance and Repair of everyday appliances with minimal replacement components)

The Austere Medicine Tab - 2018 Update

THE AUSTERE MEDICINE FUNCTIONAL AREA


The Austere Medical Functional Area is designed by former Special Forces Medical Personnel with a focus on Austere environments where higher tier medical support will not be readily available. Concentrating in the basics as well as high stress events, and student ingenuity. Courses are based upon DoD TCCC Committee, and NAEMT Guidelines

The BASIC Austere Medical Program


Designed to build strong foundations in Trauma Medical Care in an environment where Emergency Medical Services are not readily available (Austere Environment). This Program will lead you into becoming a great asset to the community at large, whether in providing first aid at home, immediate attention to the victims of an automobile crash or in an Active Shooter Incident.
Those that meet the requirements of this program will earn a Basic Austere Medicine Tab. 

Earning the Basic Austere Medical Tab


There are Three normal paths to earning the Basic Austere Medical Tab:

1. Satisfactorily complete this CAG course

  • Introduction to Austere Medicine (AM-1) course 

 AND Complete and provide an Outside Medical Training Certification

  •   Outside Medical Certification (Current), examples include:

- First Aid and CPR/AED - Red Cross or equivalent 
- Wilderness First Aid - Red Cross or equivalent 
- National Registry (certificates MUST be current)
- Military Combat Life Saver (cert must be within 24 months of the issue date)
- Any State Licensure (MUST be current)
- "Other" medical training will be considered on a case by case basis.

 –OR–
 
 2. Satisfactorily complete a Trauma Medical Course (TCCC or TECC Based) from a CAG Affiliate Trainer or Approved 3rd Party Trainer.

 AND Complete and provide an Outside Medical Training Certification

  Outside Medical Certification (Current), examples include:

- First Aid and CPR/AED - Red Cross or equivalent 
- Wilderness First Aid - Red Cross or equivalent 
- National Registry (certificates MUST be current)

This method is for individuals that have the prerequisite skills for qualification, they merely need to provide proof of those skills. This method is also recommended for members that may lack the ability to access training or trainers.

To earn the Austere Medicine Tab you have to send video proof of Proper procedures and equipment (That's TWO separate 2 minute videos, PLUS photographs AND certifications) Example videos and Standards for video submission are provided below.
 

  • A MARCH Patient Assessment Video submission
    • Must be in sequence according to Trauma Assessment Steps
    • You MUST verbalize (Say out loud) what you are doing so we can follow along with you
    • The video in its entirety MUST be under 2 minutes, this includes your introduction stating your membership number

MARCH Patient Assessment Example

  • A Trauma Treatment Video Submission
    • One video Submission from these topics below (Same 2-minute standard), be creative and practice, we aren't giving you the answer for this one.
    • Clearly State your Name and Member Number for the video
      • A CoTCCC approved tourniquet self-applied to your arm (one handed application).
      • A Homemade 3-sided AND 4-sided occlusive dressing to a chest. This looks easy, but we can tell if it doesn't seal!
      • A homemade tourniquet self-applied to your own thigh, we will assess the tourniquet you create.

Improvised Windlass Tourniquet Example
 

  • A Photo of your IFAK, must include:
    • Your membership number written or printed on a card, no video edits
    • Your IFAK must contain the items required to treat every category of MARCH.
    • Manufactured IFAKs are acceptable, BUT they must contain ALL items required for a full MARCH assessment.
    • Homemade supplies are entirely acceptable

"Everyone a Leader, Everyone a Teacher!" This is the Core of CAGs competencies derived from our Special Forces founders. 

The Leadership Functional area is focused on improving the Core Competency skills of the members of CAG "A-teams" to expand their capabilities and effectiveness within their communities.   

The CAG Leadership Training Program

The goal and focus of the Leadership Program is to provide all members of the CAG "A-Teams" with the continuing education and skills to be better leaders for their teams, their families, and their communities. Also to produce, mentor and foster subject matter experts among the teams to become trainers in their own right. 

Emphasis in this program is in the following areas:

  • Basic Leadership Skills for Small Volunteer Groups
  • Advanced Leadership Skills in Crisis/Disaster Situations
  • Basic Recruiting Techniques
  • Basic Crisis/Disaster Psychology
  • Operational Area Intelligence Management
  • Basic Instructor Skills for Trainers

Small, Volunteer Group Leadership, Train-the-Trainer, and Recruiting skills make better leaders for our members! These skills will better prepare CAG A-Team members to function more effectively in core Leadership and Subject Matter Expert competencies in a Crisis/Disaster situation.

The Marksmanship Tab - 2018 Update

THE MARKSMANSHIP FUNCTIONAL AREA

This Area is designed for all levels of shooters to train in Safety, Competent Handling, and Self Defense measures.

From new shooters looking to establish a solid foundation in multi-weapon fundamentals to experienced marksman looking to refresh their fundamentals and grow into new systems. 

TAB: Marksmanship

The BASIC Marksmanship Program

Designed to build strong foundations in Safe and Competent Firearms handling. Every shooter will be expected to uphold safety standards and to provide and maintain their own Personal Protective Equipment, Equipment and Ammunition. Those that meet the requirements of this program will earn a Basic Marksmanship Tab.

 

Earning the Basic Marksmanship Tab

There are Three normal paths to earning the Basic Marksmanship Tab:

1. Satisfactorily complete any TWO of these CAG courses

  • CAG Pistol-1 Introduction to Pistol Marksmanship
  • CAG Carbine/Rifle-1 Introduction to Carbine/Rifle Marksmanship
  • CAG Long Rifle-1 Introduction to Long Rifle Marksmanship
  • CAG Archery-1 Introduction to Archery

 –OR–

 2. Satisfactorily complete any Marksmanship Courses for TWO different weapons systems from a CAG Affiliate Trainer or Approved 3rd Party Trainer.

Once Issued a Certificate of Training or Completion, you may request credit for your Training Tab

 3. Distance Learning Program Submissions.

This method is for individuals that have the prerequisite skills for qualification, they merely need to provide proof of those skills. This method is also recommended for members in areas where firearm use or ownership is restricted.

To earn the marksmanship tab you have to qualify and send video proof for at least 2 of 4 primary weapons (That's two separate 2 minute videos) Example videos are provided below. Standards for video submission are listed for each system.

Plus, submit 1 copy of any of these:

  • Any State recognized hunters safety course
  • Any NRA certification for your weapon
  • Boy Scout merit badges for marksmanship
  • Any State recognized CCW certificate
  • For active duty service members and LEO, any CURRENT and official orders for weapon marksmanship awards
  • We are willing to accept other forms of training, just include it in your submission. 

Individual Weapon Requirements:

 

Weapon:  Pistol

Submit a 2 minute video that contains the following:

  • BE SAFE! This video is your responsibility, therefore safety is YOUR responsibility
  • DO NOT Video from in front of the weapon.
  • Clearly State your Name and Member Number for the video
  • We MUST be able to see the trigger control on the video
  • The video must begin with you clearing then loading the weapon safely
  • at 5-meters, a score of 70 or higher from ANY firing position -or- 7 out of 10 shots on any 10″ or smaller bulls eye target
  • This video must include 1 tactical reload of the weapon. When in the shot sequence is entirely up to you, but a tactical reload MUST be performed during the 10 shots after the first shot, before the last. Your trigger finger MUST BE out of the trigger well during the reload.
  • 3 of the 10 shots MUST BE made off/weak hand.
  • Walk to and SHOW the target and score

 

Weapon:  Carbine/Rifle

Submit a 2 minute video that contains the following:

WE LOVE TO TEACH!

Our classes focus around 4 basic disciplines of self reliance and they are:

  1. Combat Marksmanship
  2. Austere Medicine

We have trainers currently located in GA-KY-NC and in most cases we are able to travel to you and train on your preps if that makes the most sense for your family. All of our trainers are seasoned SPECIAL FORCES OPERATIVES and have multiple combat deployments under their belts. Each trainer has a Linked in profile for your review and can be forwarded to you if you're interested in training with CAG. Our private courses fill up fast and we don't do double booking so each session is given its due attention. The CAG staff also travel to member functions so you need to make your reservations as soon as possible. Reservations are only held 30 days pending payment, once payment is confirmed your reservation will locked in for the training day. We also offer select group sessions.
