THE MARKSMANSHIP FUNCTIONAL AREA
This Area is designed for all levels of shooters to train in Safety, Competent Handling, and Self Defense measures.
From new shooters looking to establish a solid foundation in multi-weapon fundamentals to experienced marksman looking to refresh their fundamentals and grow into new systems.
The BASIC Marksmanship Program
Designed to build strong foundations in Safe and Competent Firearms handling. Every shooter will be expected to uphold safety standards and to provide and maintain their own Personal Protective Equipment, Equipment and Ammunition. Those that meet the requirements of this program will earn a Basic Marksmanship Tab.
Earning the Basic Marksmanship Tab
There are Three normal paths to earning the Basic Marksmanship Tab:
1. Satisfactorily complete any TWO of these CAG courses
- CAG Pistol-1 Introduction to Pistol Marksmanship
- CAG Carbine/Rifle-1 Introduction to Carbine/Rifle Marksmanship
- CAG Long Rifle-1 Introduction to Long Rifle Marksmanship
- CAG Archery-1 Introduction to Archery
–OR–
2. Satisfactorily complete any Marksmanship Courses for TWO different weapons systems from a CAG Affiliate Trainer or Approved 3rd Party Trainer.
Once Issued a Certificate of Training or Completion, you may request credit for your Training Tab

3. Distance Learning Program Submissions.
This method is for individuals that have the prerequisite skills for qualification, they merely need to provide proof of those skills. This method is also recommended for members in areas where firearm use or ownership is restricted.

To earn the marksmanship tab you have to qualify and send video proof for at least 2 of 4 primary weapons (That's two separate 2 minute videos) Example videos are provided below. Standards for video submission are listed for each system.
Plus, submit 1 copy of any of these:
- Any State recognized hunters safety course
- Any NRA certification for your weapon
- Boy Scout merit badges for marksmanship
- Any State recognized CCW certificate
- For active duty service members and LEO, any CURRENT and official orders for weapon marksmanship awards
- We are willing to accept other forms of training, just include it in your submission.
Individual Weapon Requirements:
Weapon: Pistol
Submit a 2 minute video that contains the following:
- BE SAFE! This video is your responsibility, therefore safety is YOUR responsibility
- DO NOT Video from in front of the weapon.
- Clearly State your Name and Member Number for the video
- We MUST be able to see the trigger control on the video
- The video must begin with you clearing then loading the weapon safely
- at 5-meters, a score of 70 or higher from ANY firing position -or- 7 out of 10 shots on any 10″ or smaller bulls eye target
- This video must include 1 tactical reload of the weapon. When in the shot sequence is entirely up to you, but a tactical reload MUST be performed during the 10 shots after the first shot, before the last. Your trigger finger MUST BE out of the trigger well during the reload.
- 3 of the 10 shots MUST BE made off/weak hand.
- Walk to and SHOW the target and score
Weapon: Carbine/Rifle
Submit a 2 minute video that contains the following:
- BE SAFE! This video is your responsibility, therefore safety is YOUR responsibility
- DO NOT Video from in front of the weapon.
- Clearly State your Name and Member Number for the video
- We MUST be able to see the trigger control on the video
- The video must begin with you clearing then loading the weapon safely
- at 25-meters, a score of 70 or higher from ANY firing position -or- 7 out of 10 shots on any 10" or smaller bulls eye target
- This video must include 1 tactical reload of the weapon. When in the shot sequence is entirely up to you, but a tactical reload MUST be performed during the 10 shots after the first shot, before the last. Your trigger finger MUST BE out of the trigger well during the reload.
- Walk to and SHOW the target and score
Alternate Weapons Systems can be submitted using a similar format, contact the CAG Training Desk to coordinate qualification standards and methods.
To Request Tab Credit you must:
First, ensure that you are logged into your personal profile on www.CAGMain.com and that your profile is complete
- All Course/Project Videos and Presentations should be submitted by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
- On the Home Page, select the MEMBERS ONLY tab
- In the drop down menu, select the REQUEST TAB CREDIT tab
- Fill out the blocks completely, incomplete submissions will not be accepted
- Upload an electronic copy of your Certificates into the block provided
- Don't forget to hit the SUBMIT button
- The CAG Staff will process your request and contact you.
